With over 35 years of experience in psychological assessment, Dr. Prather is the sole practitioner of Prather Psychological Services. She received her Ph.D. in educational/school psychology in 1989 from the University of Georgia, her Masters and Certificate of Advanced Study in School Psychology in 1985 from Appalachian State University, and her Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics and Psychology in 1983 from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She has experience working in private practice, day treatment, inpatient psychiatric/behavioral hospitals, and schools. Dr. Prather has worked with and evaluated individuals with developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral problems, traumatic brain injury, neurological disorders (e.g., seizure disorders) and personality disorders. She has training in a variety of tests including the Rorschach Inkblot Test, the Wechsler Scales, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory, etc. She also has experience in individual, family and group counseling.
Dr. Prather enjoys the fact that every person she sees is unique, with a special set of strengths and talents. After assessing over ten thousand people, no two have ever been the same. She has a sincere respect for the strength, compassion and perseverance of parents of children with special needs, and enjoys being able to help these families through testing, which can aid in helping the children get the accommodations that they need at school and other establishments.
